Shore Spotlight: Senior Credit Adviser, Nick Jacobs – The Adviser’s Top 30 Brokers Under 30

Nick Jacobs

The team at Shore Financial is so proud that Senior Credit Adviser, Nick Jacobs, has been featured as one of the Adviser’s Top 30 Brokers Under 30.

Nick is no stranger to accolades and his dedication to delivering top results for our clients has led to him being awarded in the MFAA’s Top 30 under 30 brokers in 2017 and the MPA’s Top 40 under 40, in both 2017 and 2018.

Looking beyond the transaction

When we asked Nick what he felt set him apart from other brokers, he didn’t have to pause to think. For Nick, finding the right home loan for his clients is about more than just the transaction – it’s about building an open and honest relationship.

We have a wide range of clients,” says Nick, “and it doesn’t matter to me whether they’re borrowing $2million or $500,000. I look beyond the initial transaction and focus on building some commonalities and starting a relationship. It’s about building trust so my clients know they can rely on me.

The Shore Financial difference

It’s this client focused approach that attracted Nick to Shore Financial:

At Shore we are very nimble and we work pretty hard,” says Nick. “We work around the needs of our clients and fit in with their schedules. Our clients have busy lives and we want to make the process as seamless as possible for them. If that means travelling across the city, interstate or taking a meeting late at night, that’s what we’ll do.

Integrity leads to respect

Nick values the respect of his clients and he sees his honest approach to customer service as a key ingredient to building lasting relationships.

Integrity is really important,” says Nick, “If something’s not going according to plan, I’ll be honest and fess up. People actually respect that in the long run; even though it may not be the best outcome for them initially, you’ll have their respect.

Putting the clients’ needs first

It’s typical of Nick’s honesty that when we asked him to share a recent client story with us, he chose one where problems did arise.

It was Friday afternoon and Nick was on his way out of town to a friend’s birthday when a call came from his client.

They were really upset,” said Nick. “Basically, the settlement had fallen through at the last minute. I’d been assured by the lenders that everything was in place but they hadn’t picked up on a clerical error. My clients were out of the house; they had nowhere to stay. It was a nightmare for them.”

Even though he was not at fault, Nick was quick to come up with a solution. He offered to put the couple up in a hotel for the weekend. An offer they gladly accepted. The settlement went through on Monday without a hitch and Nicks clients were able to move into their new home.

Client-centric focus - a winner

Shore Financial ranked #4 in The Adviser’s Top 25 Brokerages for 2019.

While things didn’t go to plan with this settlement, Nick’s true colours came through and he put the needs of his clients before his own. It’s the perfect example of how people come first for the Shore Financial team. As CEO Theo Chambers says,

“We enjoy helping people. It’s simple… it gives us great satisfaction helping clients to optimise their finances and change their outcome.”

This client-centric focus is working for Shore who have just been named #4 in The Advisers Top 25 Brokerages 2019.

It’s an achievement the team are particularly proud of as they were the only independent brokerage listed in this years rankings.

As for Nick, his 2019 game plan is to keep working hard, focus on the long game and… fit in the occasional surf down at Bondi.

“If you’re good to people and do what you say you’re going to do,” says Nick, “You’ll have much stronger relationships and it will pay off. That’s the one thing I would say is important.”

We couldn’t agree more.
