As one of nine siblings, James says there’s no doubt that this upbringing influenced his choice of career.
“Growing up in a big family made me realise that hard work, self-discipline and planning are key to being successful in life. Most of our clients are looking to improve their financial position and grow their wealth, we help them by providing a clear strategy so they can achieve those goals.”
Having a sense of empathy is one thing, but James believes that the key ingredient in any client/financial advisor relationship is trust.
And, over time, he aims to build partnerships with clients, working alongside them as their lives change and their financial goals change.
“A lot of people don’t feel they’re on top of their money situation. And if they do have goals, they’re often loosely defined, and they don’t have a concrete plan to support them. They also don’t want to make mistakes that could set them back, or put extra pressure on them, and that’s where a financial planner can really help.”
“There isn’t a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach. We work out a customised financial plan for clients and check in with them on a regular basis to ensure they’re on track. This way they can be clearer about their goals and how they are going to reach them. We also, when appropriate, can bring tax advisors, accounting, estate planning, finance and business specialists to the table.”
Heading up a team of three within the division, James says he is committed to seeing the business grow stronger.
“Because we offer holistic advice – all aspects of financial planning, clients like the value-added insights we can give them, and over time they really see a difference in their financial position.”
