In his spare time, James O’Brien loves rock climbing. Aside from needing a high level of physical fitness, rock climbing is an incredible mental challenge. It’s a sport that requires research, patience, consideration and stamina.
Most importantly, it requires the ability to look at a problem objectively and work through it, moment-by-moment, one step at a time. You can’t be impulsive. And you can’t just ‘give up’ when you are hundreds of metres from the ground.
With that in mind, it’s not hard to see how this adventurous pastime impacts James’s client-service philosophy: “No situation too complicated. No problem too big or too small.”
“I really love helping clients to understand that there are always options… there are always ways to structure finances to achieve the outcome you want,” he says.
Not unlike rock climbing – if you keep going, then you’ll eventually reach the top – no matter how many obstacles you face along the way.
And it’s his tenacity that his clients value the most. James is carving out a niche working with clients who access equity to grow their property portfolios. Some clients have one investment property, others have several.
Every circumstance is different and some are not always straight forward. But James’s strong relationships with lenders, his extensive knowledge of their product offerings and his ability to consider all the possibilities available, all mean that he will keep going until he’s found the right solution.
It’s his sheer determination, his drive to deliver advice that empowers clients in their decision-making and his desire to provide exceptional service above and beyond expectations, that led to him being awarded Shore Financial’s Best Sales Associate of 2018.
“I just always try to put myself in my clients’ shoes. By understanding exactly what they’re trying to achieve, I can work towards an outcome that suits them best. Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” he says.
